Operating principle
Technical Operating Principle

The sensor measures and transmits data continuously every 2.5 seconds, regardless of whether an app is receiving the data. The app displays the data in real time when it is open. Since the real-time measurement data sent by the sensor is broadcast-type, multiple phones can read the sensor data simultaneously. To receive alerts on the phone, background scanning must be enabled in the app, and the phone must be within Bluetooth range. In the iOS app, to receive alerts when the app is in the background, two-way communication mode must be enabled. This is not required in the Android app.

Datalogger
RuuviTag Pro also functions as a data logger. The sensor continuously records temperature, humidity, and pressure data for the last 10 days at a five-minute recording interval. The internal history can be imported into the app when the phone is within Bluetooth range.

Medical Grade Temperature Accuracy

RuuviTag Pro has an extremely accurate temperature sensor on board. The sensor is designed to meet ASTM E1112 and ISO 80601 requirements for electronic patient thermometers.

Measurement resolution is 0,01 °C, while absolute accuracy is astounding at ±0,1 °C across the temperature range of –20 to +50 °C, with no calibration.

The sensor units are 100% tested on a production setup that is NIST traceable and verified with equipment that is calibrated to ISO/IEC 17025 accredited standards.

Note! Individual calibration certificates are not available.

Wet-Certified

RuuviTag Pro tolerates wet and rough conditions.

The IP67 certified RuuviTag Pro (4in1 and 3in1) comes with a breathable membrane that enables air humidity and air pressure monitoring. It tolerates temporary wet conditions and it’s a good choice to outdoor use. The 4in1 and 3in1 models are for non-condensing uses only.

The IP68 and IP69K certified RuuviTag Pro (2in1) offers a full protection against water with its fully sealed enclosure.

Note! Please keep in mind that Bluetooth signals are strongly attenuated in the water and range will be significantly reduced. Due to very limited range it’s usually not practical to use sensor underwater. If you want to measure deeper, you can attach the RuuviTag Pro to a string and take it back to the surface when you want to download the data history.

What are the differences between the IP67, IP68 and IP69K in RuuviTag Pro?

RuuviTag Pro has been professionally laboratory tested and certified for IP67, IP68 and IP69K.

IP67 tolerates wet condition only temporarily. It can be used outside as long as the breathing membrane will not stay wet more than 30 minutes.

IP68 certification ensures that RuuviTag Pro will function in water for 24 hours.

IP69K means that the unit has undergone a challenging set of tests to ensure that it offers protection against penetration of high pressure and high temperature water of 80 °C.

Why would I need Ruuvi products?

The use cases for Ruuvi sensors are unlimited and the only limit is your imagination. Read more about use cases and user experiences on our blog and our forum.

The Ruuvi products are designed in Finland and produced in France with the highest quality standards to ensure the best possible products at the end!
We do not believe in bots (at least on our webpage)! We are very happy to answer any of your questions regarding a product or to support you with any issue.

Why are there two enclosure models in RuuviTag Pro?

RuuviTag Pro’s fully sealed version is IP68 and IP69K certified. This means that it tolerates wet conditions like never seen before.

The IP67 model has a weather resistant membrane that allows air to pass through. This is a requirement to allow you to measure air humidity and air pressure.

Is my mobile device compatible with Ruuvi products?

Ruuvi’s sensors work with Ruuvi Station mobile app. The app can be downloaded both from the Play Store (Android) and the App Store (iOS). It is also available for tablets.

How to monitor the Ruuvi sensors remotely?

The Ruuvi sensors can be monitored with just a mobile device and the Ruuvi Station app within the Bluetooth range. If you want to monitor conditions from further, you’ll need our Ruuvi Gateway product.

The Gateway is connected to the internet and listens to sensors with a higher sensitivity than a regular mobile device. The test results talk by themselves: up to 2000 meters between the Gateway and the sensors, compared to 200 meters between a mobile device and the sensors (test realized in optimal conditions without any obstacle).

Then, the Gateway shares the data to our cloud service. The sensor measurements are then retrievable, either from the mobile app or our web interface from anywhere in the world as long as you have an internet connection.

Do I need to charge my Ruuvi sensors?

No, the power of the RuuviTag Pro sensors is supplied by CR2477T coin batteries, included in the box. One battery lasts usually between 2 to 3 years in continuous use. The battery is easily replaceable by the user making our products very sustainable and lowering their maintenance costs to a few euros every two years.

Check how to change the RuuviTag battery!

Can I use the Ruuvi sensors to monitor my sauna?

Yes you can!

The sensor’s temperature increases slightly slower than the sauna’s temperature and the readings depend a lot on where it is placed inside the sauna. But that’s not a problem! Just check at the first use what is the sensor reading when the sauna is just perfect for you. Then, set the alert to this specific value to get notified when the sauna is ready and to get the perfect temperature every single time!

Please note, that if the sensor is reaching temperatures above 85°C you should consider setting the sensor somewhere lower in the sauna to avoid any thermal damage.

What is the range?

Using only Ruuvi sensors

The sensors send data packages via Bluetooth to your mobile device. Thanks to optimized sensor antenna design, in perfect conditions without any obstacle, the Bluetooth range is up to 200 meters, which is way more than that regular Bluetooth speaker.

Please keep in mind that any obstacle, especially metal enclosures, concrete walls, or proximity of water will lower the range.

Using Ruuvi sensors + Ruuvi Gateway

The sensors send the same data packages as above with the same emission power. However, the reception antenna is way better on the Ruuvi Gateway than on a regular mobile device. The highest range ever recorded, in optimal conditions, between the Gateway and the sensors is a vertiginous 2000 meters!

The Ruuvi Gateway shares then data to the cloud service and the sensor readings are then retrievable from anywhere in the world as long as you have an internet connection.

Are Ruuvi products compatible with a home assistant?

The Ruuvi products are not directly integrated into home automation systems. However, all our products are open-source and can be integrated to any home automation system, requiring some further development. Discussions and tutorials about the topic are available on our forum.

How fast is the shipping?

We work with the best courier partners and do our best to proceed to the shipment within 24 hours from the order! All the products are sent from our warehouse in Finland and delivery time depends obviously on your location. We will provide you with a tracking number automatically to your email so that you can follow where your Ruuvi package is going.

Can I see the data history of my Ruuvi sensors?

Yes you can!

Up to 10 days with the Ruuvi sensors alone

The Ruuvi sensors have built-in storage enabling them to store 10 days of measurement data. You can import the data to the Ruuvi Station mobile app at any point by pressing “sync” button in the app. This means that even when leaving from the Bluetooth range, you will be able to see a detailed 10 days history when coming back and synchronizing.

Up to 2 years with the Ruuvi Gateway and our cloud service

If this 10 days of data is too short, or that you want to be able to monitor your sensors remotely, you should consider the Ruuvi Gateway. It enables you to analyze up to 2 years of data history on the convenient and intuitive desktop version of Ruuvi Station. Also, no need to synchronize, the Ruuvi Gateway is continuously sharing data to the cloud and it is retrievable from anywhere around the world as long as you have an internet connection.
