What conditions are optimal for a greenhouse?

Most plants thrive at temperatures between 18 °C and 24 °C. Relative humidity should be between 40% and 80%.

Fertilise your plants, water them regularly, and ensure proper conditions in the greenhouse with the help of Ruuvi sensors. With these tips, you will have a rich harvest. Optimising greenhouse conditions is one of the most important things you can do to increase the harvest from your plants. When you closely monitor the temperature in your greenhouse, you can already start growing crops in the early spring and collect your harvests well into the autumn.

During springtime, sprouted tomato seedlings can be transferred to the greenhouse when the temperature does not fall below 15 °C during the night. Cucumbers can be transferred to the greenhouse when the temperature remains constantly above 18 °C.

The temperature in a greenhouse should be lower during the night and higher in the daytime. Take note that the temperature should not rise above 26 °C. Temperature monitoring is also important during the winter if you have moved your plants to your greenhouse to overwinter.

Monitoring relative humidity also plays a crucial role in growing plants. Air that is too humid can expose plants to various diseases and cause them to rot. On the other hand, air that is too dry will cause the plants to dry up and the photosynthesis will not be efficient. It is important to ventilate the greenhouse frequently.

You can monitor the humidity and temperature in the greenhouse using Ruuvi sensors. The greatest benefit comes from customisable notifications. Receive an alert about undesired conditions based on minimum and maximum readings you want, depending on the season and the growing phase.

Greenhouses are often built in an east-west direction. There are guidelines as to which plants should be placed on the sunny side and which should be on the shadowy side. Since the environment may vary greatly in different parts of the greenhouse, it may be a good idea to place at least two sensors at the opposite ends.

RuuviTag is a Bluetooth sensor that monitors environmental conditions and sends the data directly to your mobile device. The Ruuvi Station mobile app allows you to view real-time accurate measurements and historical graphs. The app also provides customisable alerts to notify you of critical conditions, such as a melting freezer, excessively high bedroom temperatures that could disrupt sleep, or elevated humidity levels in your basement.
